Skosh - a little gem in York, England

Guess who’s back? Back again… Has it really been that long? Yes…

I have been a bit distracted over the last year with wedding planning but now that the deed is done (yay!) I have time again!

Anyway, this morning I was going back through some photos on my phone and in doing so, I found some photos of my amazing birthday meal back in January (a long time ago I know… sorry) at a restaurant called Skosh in York, England.

If you google Skosh, you will see that it has very good reviews. And yes, this is another one, so you can go ahead and book your table now if you don’t want to read any more lol.

But if you are still reading then I can tell you that Skosh is seriously good. It’s a small, intimate restaurant that focuses on small plates with mostly a Japanese influence from the dishes we chose. We went for lunch so we chose about five dishes to share plus double dessert (a necessity for my birthday!)

So first up, ‘hen’s egg’ with St Andrews cheddar, mushroom and px sherry. The name didn’t really give anything away so we didn’t really know what to expect. What came was a cute little kinda baked savoury egg custard that was really umami. The venison dumplings that came at the same time were really meaty and the blackcurrant vinegar cut through the richness.

Then, we had the venison tataki which was juicy and melt-in-the-mouth. The octopus with pear and black bean sounded interesting on paper but made for an awesome combination.

The piece de resistance was the miso glazed cod – isn’t that plate a thing of beauty?! Ohhh, that cod was cooked so perfectly. I still dream about it now!

Last but not least, check out the beautiful chocolate, passionfruit, miso and caramel dessert. Doesn’t it look like a Golden Snitch from Harry Potter?! And all washed down the warm whisky spiced milk and kumquat jam donut – yum!
