Best Scandi homeware and lifestyle stores in Copenhagen

I first visited Copenhagen in July 2016, having chosen the destination spontaneously based on wanting to go somewhere ‘a bit different’. At that point, the hygge (Danish for “cosiness”) lifestyle trend had started to take off so it was super cool to see real Scandinavian style in person, rather than just in magazine spreads. I was in my element visiting the homeware and lifestyle stores, wanting to buy EVERYTHING…!

So, when my sister asked me where to go for our annual break, Copenhagen was top of my list. We went a few months ago and I loved it all over again. The trip inspired me to write this post about my favourite shops and brands there. If you love Scandi design and are planning a visit to Copenhagen, be sure to visit my recommendations for the best homeware and lifestyle shops in Copenhagen!

Studio Arhoj

Studio Arhoj is a Danish interior and design studio that makes beautiful ceramic goods and other homewares. Their aesthetic blends modern Scandi simplicity and traditional Japanese culture to create interesting shapes, with a very natural feel. I fell in love with the variety of colours in their hand-thrown porcelain. Each piece is completely unique because of the glazing techniques they use!

Royal Copenhagen

The Royal Copenhagen flagship store showcases all the designs and patterns from Royal Copenhagen.

The huge space is part store, part gallery – one of the floors features innovative exhibitions and collaborations. Maybe you can even pick up a bargain from the seconds shop on the top floor!

HAY House

HAY is a renowned design house that occupies a stylish two-floor apartment on Ostergade.

The building is stunningly beautiful and has a feature staircase down the centre.

You can get HAY’s full range of furniture and quirky home accessories here.
